Is Chiwenga of Jesus Revelations Ministry reviving the adoptionism Heresy?
In his sermons titled Jesus is Christ and Christian Church part 2 Chiwenga rejected the teaching that Jesus was God who became man at his conception. He rejected the Dogma that Mary is the mother of God, rejected that Jesus was born Christ, Lord and God. What this means is that to Chiwenga, Jesus is a man who became God, Lord and Christ. We know from basic understanding the nature of God, God can become man, because with God everything is possible. However, for man to become God it is another issue. And this opens the door to every man having a possibility of becoming God. This is the same doctrine that was condemned as a heresy known as adoptionism.
Another
question that arises is, did Jesus suffer as just a human on the cross or as
God incarnate on the cross. If it were a human who suffered on the cross, we
are yet to be redeemed as the sacrifice necessary to redeem us from the infinity
sin Adam committed to an infinity God required a sacrifice that was also infinity
that no human could offer.
Adoptionism,
also called dynamic Monarchianism, is an early Christian nontrinitarian
theological doctrine, subsequently revived in various forms, which holds that
Jesus was adopted as the Son of God at his baptism, his resurrection, or his
ascension.
In essence,
there is an event that occurs that makes God adopt Jesus as His son and thereby
making Him God, Lord, Christ and Saviour. For Chiwenga the event is the resurrection.
Like all
Protestants since reformation, Chiwenga is recycling the old heresies and then
claim that he is following Scripture and Scripture alone. Scripture which came
from Tradition once divorced from it leads to private interpretation divorced
from the Tradition swam from. The books of Scripture were selected using
Tradition hence it follows that Tradition guides its interpretation. He is
doing the same things that all Protestants do. I will take my time to show Proof
that Jesus was God, Lord, Christ and Saviour from Birth. As Peter warned, the
letters of Paul are difficult to understand yet most Protestants want to start
with those letters. This is exactly what led Martin Luther to the Error of Sola
Fide.
2
Peter 3:16 As also in all his epistles,
speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be
understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also
the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
There are
numerous verses that prove that Jesus was indeed conceived God, Lord and Christ.
I will only make use of the following verses from the four Gospels and all are
taken from the KJV version since it is the most acceptable amongst Protestants:
Matthew 16:20
Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was
Jesus the Christ.
Mark 8:29
And he saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Peter answereth
and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.
Matthew 1:18 ‘’Now
the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was
espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child
of the Holy Ghost.’’ The Scriptures talk of the birth of Jesus
Christ not the Birth of Jesus. It is clear that Mary is indeed the Mother of
Jesus Christ, not just Jesus.
Luke 1:43 “And
whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord
should come to me?”
Elizabeth
under the inspiration of the Holy ghost actually calls Mary the Mother of the Lord
whilst Jesus was still in the womb of Mary. If Mary is the Mother of the Lord,
does it not follow that she is the Mother of God as well. The argument that God
cannot be born should also apply equally to Lord as well. Mary did not give to
Jesus the Divine nature which made Him God or the Lordship that made Him Lord.
But as a person He had these things in Him. A person cannot be split, a person
is one with His natures. For Jesus is God and Is man, not 2 separate persons
but only one person. Mary is the mother of the person. In the following verses
Jesus would be asked by people to confirm if He is the Christ, son of the
Living God and He confirmed it:
Matthew 26:63
But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto
him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the
Christ, the Son of God. 64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast
said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man
sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the
clouds of heaven.
John 4:25 The woman saith unto him, I know that
Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all
things. 4:26 Jesus saith unto her, I that
speak unto thee am he.
John 6:69 And we believe and are sure that thou
art that Christ, the Son of the living God.
Even in the
genealogy it is the name Jesus Christ that appears not just Jesus.
Matthew 1:1
The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David,
the son of Abraham.
The
following verses shows that Christ was to be born and indeed born, and Mary is called
the mother of Jesus Christ.
Matthew 1:18
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary
was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child
of the Holy Ghost.
Matthew 2:4
And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people
together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
Luke 2:11
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is
Christ the Lord.
Like Christ
was to be born, so was He to die as well:
Luke 24:26
Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to
enter into his glory?
Luke 24:46
And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to
suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
Luke 24:46
And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to
suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
How could
He die as Christ if He were not yet Christ? Even Demons knew He was Christ, Son
of God, not that He will be:
Luke 4:41
And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art
Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for
they knew that he was Christ.
Further verses that Jesus was not adopted:
Matthew 11:2
Now when John had heard in the prison the works of Christ, he sent two
of his disciples,
Luke 2:26
And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see
death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.
Luke 9:20
He said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answering said,
The Christ of God.
Luke 22:67
Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye
will not believe:
John 1:41
He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have
found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.
